Crimson Christmas
In the north island of New Zealand summer is heralded in by the magnificent Pohutukawa tree. Known as the ‘New Zealand Christmas tree’ it is a splendid sight to see en masse, with its scarlet blooms.
If you are lucky enough to be here at Christmas, one of the best places to see the Pohutukawas is on the Coromandel Peninsula where massive, knarly specimens line the cliff tops and overhang white sand beaches.
