One of our favorite spots to camp is Te Arai Point. This beach/bush area is situated near Mangawai, only 1hour and 15 minutes north of Auckland. There is no official campground, but staying overnight in your motorhome is allowed. We usually go there with friends, as we feel safer when we are together when free camping.
The vista is incredible! The ever-changing ocean, the island in the back and the dunes at your feet…nature at its best. There are rock pools to explore at low tide and most of the times we see dolphins passing by. Swimming and body boarding are superb.
