Do I need extra insurance?

That is entirely up to you, just make an informed decision: In New Zealand drivers are not forced by law to have insurance, so there is a risk that even in case of an accident that is not your fault, you still need to pay. Standard insurance, which covers everything, is included in your rental, but you have an excess of 3000 NZD. Also tyres and windscreen is not covered by the standard insurance. There are some options to reduce your excess, depending on your personal preference and your travel insurance.

Can we take hard shell suitcases?

We recommend bags that can be folded, as there is not enough space in your motorhome to store big suitcases. The only option is if you hire a 4 berth or 6 berth and only have 2 or 3 people, then you can use the top beds to store suitcases.

Can I leave luggage at your depot?

Yes you can, but you have to realize that you can only do this if you pickup and drop off in the same city.

Do I need to cook in the motorhome all the time?

No, most campgrounds in New Zealand have very well equipped kitchens with indoor and outdoor seating. Usually there are hobs, ovens, grills and microwaves and sinks for your dishes. It is nice to have dinner there, especially if you want to meet other people and exchange travel experiences.

Can you swim everywhere?

Yes, all lakes, rivers and beaches have excellent water quality to swim. Some beaches on the west coast are a bit dangerous due to strong currents. These places are well signed and if you swim between the flags where the lifeguards are, there is no danger.
